Francesco Rutelli, when he was Italian minister of Cultural Affairs, begging people to visit the state sponsored portal Italia.it, which he paid (well, not really he and not from his pocket) 45 millions of Euros (the site was shut down shortly afterwards since nobody visited it). He also tries to convince people to visit Italy.
